Education

Education Framework

At Building Blocks the education framework we follow is “The Pre-birth to Three curriculum” and for our 3-5 year olds we follow the “Curriculum for excellence”. By following these frameworks our commitment to our children and their carers is:

“Building Blocks Childcare Nursery will provide a safe, secure, and stimulating environment. Children will be treated as individuals with caring and experienced team members, providing the building blocks that will enable children to learn and grow.”

Safe & Secure

At Building Blocks we offer a safe, secure and stimulating environment where children are confident. It is just this very type of environment that encourages and supports children’s education. We all know that children learn best through play and with meaningful interactions from staff children’s learning is encouraged and supported.

Fun Learning

To provide the continuous development of the children within our setting, here’s a sample of the activities on offer each day along with the benefits of these activities for the children:

Books & Story Time

In nursery we are encouraging a lifelong love of books. Reading books and surrounding children with books encourages communication and language skills. Children are using books to discover facts about the world around them.

Water

When children are playing with water they are discovering early mathematical concepts and with knowledgeable staff and appropriate interactions this becomes and ideal learning environment. Staff will introduce mathematical language and encourage children to explore different concepts such as more than, less than, how many.

Arts & Crafts

Children are able to express their thought and ideas through art and craft. They are exposed to different materials and the properties of these materials. Children are using their curiosity and imagination to solve design problems.

Block Play

Using blocks children have the freedom to discover and choose ways to create images and objects. Children will work individually or in groups. Children working in groups will be sharing and working together to a common goal, they will be sharing their ideas and listening to others.

Interactive Display

We have recently installed a fabulous 65″ fully interactive computer screen. The screen is being used by our Pre School children to help them with developing creative and critical thinking. We are using educational software to promote numeracy and literacy, and small groups of children are encouraged to work together to develop their fine motor and problem-solving skills. Already the children have had lots of fun using the screen.

Our Garden

The nursery has a large garden, which creates a wonderful learning environment for the children and gives the opportunity for our innovative learning programmes to continue. From planting and growing vegetables to make snack, learning about the changing seasons and giving the children a place to develop their physical skills. The nursery also take advantage of the local woodland area to engage the pre-school children in Forest Kindergarten. The children taking part in this innovative concept show greater ability to focus on task, develop better listening skills along with appreciation and respect for their surroundings.

School Transitions

Starting school is an important milestone for every child and their parents. At Building Blocks Nursery we believe that when children leave our nursery to embark on the next chapter in their lives we must do all we can to support and celebrate this transition.

At Building Blocks Nursery we liaise with the local schools prior to children joining them and will invite the teachers to visit the children at the nursery. During the transition period there will be activities in our pre-school area that will assist in the children’s transitions to school.
